Patricia de Mesquita PhD is a freelance documentary filmmaker whose career has spanned over 20 years of foreign affairs programming.

She spent 15 years as part of the BBC’s core News and Current Affairs staff in London where she specialised in investigating terror-networks and radicalisation across the globe. Fluent in several languages, hostile environment trained and a self-shooter she has also produced and directed across genres on many award-winning series and critically acclaimed strands - including investigations for PBS Frontline, the BBC’s Panorama and This World, Arte, Discovery or Al-Jazeera.

Patricia gained an MA from the University of St Andrews and completed a PhD in International Relations where she focused on representational practices in times of political violence. Passionate about promoting public discourse and critical thinking in schools she co-founded, an award-winning media literacy club and independent news site for 9-15-year-olds. Patricia also mentors media graduates in the UK and overseas and gives regular talks on the power of ethical, fact-based journalism in the age of Big Tech to various organisations - including The John Smith Trust and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
