Michael Gilson is a former newspaper editor of 20 years standing. His titles include the Belfast Telegraph, The Scotsman, The News, Portsmouth and The Argus, Brighton.
In 2014 he was the Northern Ireland Journalist of the Year and his newspapers have been regular award-winners.
He has also served on the former Press Complaints Commission code committee for six years until 2009 and was a director of the Regulatory Funding Company which oversees IPSO.
He is also an associate fellow at the School of Media, Film and Music, University of Sussex and is studying for an MA in Garden and Landscape History at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London. He still writes on journalism for academic journals.
He is now a communications director working for, among others Greater Brighton and Adur and Worthing Councils.
